A visitor economy means the building is very busy for part of the year and quiet for the rest, and the camera system has to be useful in both states. During the season the questions are about entrances, parking, and merchandise areas with heavy foot traffic. Out of season the building sits mostly empty, and exterior coverage of doors, equipment, and storage matters more. We design so the same system answers both, rather than tuning it for the busy months only.

Conditions in Custer

Custer serves both a seasonal visitor economy and a steady local base, and the building stock ranges from older downtown structures to newer construction on the edges. Surrounding terrain and tree cover affect wireless planning for properties outside town. Winter conditions are significant at this elevation, so exterior equipment gets specified accordingly and disruptive work is scheduled outside the busy months where possible.

Custer combines a tourism and hospitality economy with a base of small businesses and second homes in the surrounding hills. We design surveillance, networking, and AV for commercial and hospitality clients, and residential systems for cabins and lake homes. Coverage across spread-out properties is a frequent challenge we plan for.
