Managed IT
SECURITY BUILT FOR A SMALL BUSINESS BUDGET.
Small businesses are targeted more than they think — not because attackers care who they are, but because automated attacks hit everyone, and small businesses are usually the least defended. We build practical cybersecurity for businesses across Rapid City and the Black Hills: real protection, sized and priced for a company that does not have a security team.
You do not need enterprise tooling to be safe. You need the fundamentals done consistently — a managed firewall, protected devices, email security that catches phishing, and filtering that keeps staff off malicious sites. Most breaches walk through a door that was left open, and closing those doors is straightforward when someone is actually responsible for it.
We assess where you are exposed, close the obvious gaps first, and layer protection based on what you are actually protecting — client data, financial systems, patient records — rather than selling you tools you do not need.
Firewall Management
Your firewall is the front door between your business and the internet, and most small-business firewalls are installed once and never touched again — running old firmware, with rules nobody remembers writing. We manage the firewall as an ongoing thing: current firmware, sensible rules, intrusion protection turned on, and segmentation so a problem in one part of the network does not spread to everything.
For businesses with guest WiFi, cameras, or point-of-sale systems, we separate those onto their own network segments so a compromised guest device or camera cannot reach your business systems. This ties directly into how we design commercial networks and WiFi.
Endpoint Protection
Every laptop, desktop, and server is a potential entry point. We deploy endpoint protection that goes beyond old-style antivirus — it watches for the behavior of ransomware and malware, not just known signatures, and it reports to us so alerts get seen and acted on. If a machine is compromised, we can isolate it from the network before the problem spreads.
Email Security
Email is how most attacks arrive — phishing, fake invoices, and messages pretending to be your boss or your bank. We layer email security on top of Microsoft 365 that filters phishing and malicious attachments before they reach the inbox, and we enforce the sign-in protections that stop a stolen password from turning into a compromised account.
Business email compromise — where an attacker gets into an account and redirects payments or sends fake invoices — is one of the most expensive attacks that hit small companies, and it is largely preventable with the protections we put in place.
DNS Filtering
DNS filtering blocks devices on your network from reaching known-malicious and inappropriate websites — before anything loads. It stops a lot of malware at the doorstep and keeps staff off the sites that deliver it. It is one of the cheapest, highest-impact protections a small business can add, and we manage it so the block list stays current.
Where Cybersecurity Meets the Rest of Your IT
Security is not a product you bolt on — it lives in every part of your setup. It is the MFA on your Microsoft 365, the patching on your computers, the segmentation in your network, and the monitored backup you can fall back on if the worst happens. That is why we deliver cybersecurity as part of managed IT rather than a standalone box: the pieces only work when they work together.
If you already have some of this in place, we will tell you honestly what is working and what is a gap. We would rather fix the one thing that is actually exposing you than sell you five things you do not need.
HOW WE APPROACH THIS
We start with a plain-language assessment of where you are exposed — how your firewall is configured, whether MFA is on, how devices are protected, and what would happen if an employee clicked the wrong link. We prioritize by real risk: the changes that close the biggest doors come first, and they are often inexpensive. From there we manage the protection over time, because security is not a one-time install — the threats change, and the settings have to keep up.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Cybersecurity — FAQ
Is my small business really a target?
+
Yes, but not for the reason people expect. Most attacks are automated and hit everyone indiscriminately — and small businesses are usually the least defended, which makes them the easiest to compromise. You do not have to be a specific target to be a victim.
What is the most important thing we can do?
+
Turn on multi-factor authentication everywhere and keep everything patched. Those two things alone stop the majority of attacks that hit small businesses. From there, a managed firewall, endpoint protection, and email security cover most of what is left.
Do we need expensive enterprise security tools?
+
No. Small businesses need the fundamentals done consistently, not enterprise tooling. A managed firewall, protected devices, email security, and DNS filtering cover the real risks at a price that fits a small-business budget.
What is business email compromise?
+
It is when an attacker gets into a business email account — usually through a stolen password or phishing — and uses it to send fake invoices or redirect payments. It is one of the most expensive attacks hitting small businesses, and it is largely prevented by MFA and email security, both of which we set up.
Can you work with our current setup?
+
Yes. We assess what you already have, tell you honestly what is protecting you and what is a gap, and fix the gaps. We would rather close the one door that is actually exposing you than sell you tools you do not need.
